Monday Memo Week 1
Good evening Otter Fam!
Hope everyone has survived and conquered this windy fair weekend. The board would like to share with you that we still have spots available for our 1 day Swim Clinic going over technique for all 4 competion strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly). Initially this clinic was only open for returning swimmers, but at this time we are inviting any 2026 registered Otter to attend. If you would like to reserve a spot, please Venmo the Orland Otters Swim Club new account @OrlandOtters1946 listing your child's name in the venmo comment. If you prefer to give cash then please email us to reserve a spot and send cash to practice this week. Spots are limited!
The divisions will be based on current age. 9 years old and up will be from 9am to 12pm with pizza lunch served from 12 to 1pm. 8 years and old under clinic also has pizza lunch from 12 to 1pm followed by clinic from 1 to 3pm. This clinic is highly beneficial to anyone who wants to compete this season. We tried to host this clinic for 3 years in a row but had to cancel twice due to logistics with scheduling for our short seasonal time frame.
Dr. Debra Roth (also known as "Coach Deb") is an ASCA Level 4 certified swim coach based in Chico, California, who retired from Chico State in 2021. She is highly regarded for her more than 40 years of coaching experience, which spans college, high school, Masters, and Special Olympics teams.
Reminder practices this week are 330pm for RETURNING swimmers (end times are 415pm mini/red, 430pm white, 445pm blue, & 5pm senior).
All NEW swimmers practice is 5-6pm beginning this week and we do take roll for attendance.
PARENTS: please remember to stay off deck, which means please remain in the bleachers or under the solar panels at the benches during practice as required by USA Swim so that coaches can coach the athletes. Please also ensure younger siblings also remain off the pool deck to ensure safety of all our Otters and families.
Please note a schedule change from your master calendar we handed out at sign ups. Practice is confirmed for all swimmers this Wednesday 5/20, but we had to cancel practice this Friday 5/22 and next Wed 5/27 due to the pool being used for private pool parties during our practice time. We are also off on Memorial Day Monday 5/25.
Our team competes in Wednesday night home Dual Meets at our pool beginning Wed 6/10, and we attend weekend swim meets called "Invitationals" as indicated on your team calendars. The Winzenz Family Summer Splash Invitational hosted by the Chico Aquajets at the Durham Pool is now OPEN for registration on the Fast Swims website. https://ome.fastswims.com/meets
There is an additional fee owed for entry into the Invitational and fees per events with a maximum number of events (races) per day of the Invitational. Ask a board member any questions you would like about that weekend Invitational process.
We are so excited to welcome all 106 of our swimmers to our beautiful pool this week. Please remember to bring water sandals such as crocs, sunscreen, goggles, water to stay hydrated, and a towel. You will see most kiddos also have a swim bag to carry all the things and load up with Otter Swag! Oscar's on 4th Street sells Orland Otters tees, tanks, hats, and hoodies. We recommend all the swag for our meets!
Please find attached your weekly Monday Memo that our boars secretary, Ruby, will send out to you every Sunday to for the upcoming swim week.
Hope to see you this week!
